Welcome to The AI Jurist Application!

This guide is designed to help you make the most of the platform and explore its powerful features. Whether you're a first-time user or looking for a quick refresher, this document will provide you with clear, step-by-step instructions to navigate the application with ease.

Getting Started

Browse through the sections using the sidebar navigation or simply scroll down to explore all features.

Home Page

Interactive Cards

On the chat page, there are interactive cards that display sample or commonly used queries. These cards act as prompt suggestions, helping users quickly initiate a conversation without typing.

What is the legal definition of negligence?

Explain contract breach remedies

When a user clicks on any of these cards, the system immediately starts generating a response based on the selected query. This feature is designed to guide users, provide inspiration, or demonstrate the kinds of questions they can ask.

Prompt Box

Upload

The upload button (located bottom left inside the prompt box) when clicked, opens a modal allowing the user to choose how they want to interact with the system. The modal provides two options:

  • Select a previously uploaded file(s) to interact with
  • Upload a new File(s) to interact with

Currently the system only supports word documents and PDF. Once a file is chosen and uploaded, it becomes available in the prompt box, enabling the user to interact with the contents of that file directly.

Summarize

When the (summarized) button is clicked, a modal opens, displaying a table that lists various cases, including their citation numbers and the corresponding parties. The user can select one or multiple cases from the table.

Once the selection is made, the system generates a summary for the chosen cases, providing detailed information about each case as well as its outcome.

Search for Updated Caselaws

Inside the modal, the user can search for cases by either the citation number or the parties involved. This search feature allows for quick and easy filtering of cases, making it easier for the user to find the specific cases they want to summarize.

Enhance Button

The 'Enhance' button refines and enhances the query entered by the user. Once clicked, the system processes the query and suggests an improved version. The user can either use the enhanced query or press the 'Undo' button, which replaces the enhanced query with the original query entered by the user.

If the query is unclear, vague, or cannot be properly enhanced, the system will display an error message stating that 'The query is too vague to be enhanced,' prompting the user to revise their input.

Original query: What is negligence?

Enhanced: What is the legal definition of negligence and what are its key elements in tort law?

Navigation (Anchor Links)

As the user interacts with the system, every query they submit generates a clickable link on the right side of the screen. These links are displayed in a list, and when clicked, each one redirects the user to the corresponding query, allowing them to easily navigate back to any previous query in the conversation history.

Case References

For most complex queries where the system relies on multiple citations, the system will allow the user to inspect the relevant citations and caselaws. This can be accessed using the "Case Ref." button generated below the answer.

When clicked, this button opens a page from the right side of the screen. This page displays the cases that were used for generating the query response. It shows two main sections: the system's response at the top, followed by a list of the corresponding cases below. Each case in the list has a dropdown, which, when clicked, reveals the case's metadata, including the court, the parties involved, and the judge presiding over the case.

Highlight Text

Within the drawer, next to each case listed in the dropdown, there is an eye icon. Clicking this icon opens the full case. There are two ways for the user to view the complete case: by clicking the eye icon beside the case in the dropdown, or by using the 'View Case' button located inside the dropdown once it is expanded.

The full case text provides a highlighted piece of text and it is this portion specifically that indicates the part the system referenced or took inspiration from while generating its response.

User Interaction Options

At the bottom of each response, you'll find several options to interact with the generated information:

Download/Copy

Download: You can download a copy of the generated response in PDF format. The PDF will also include all the relevant citations that support the information. This is useful for saving the information for offline use or for sharing it with others.

Copy: You can copy the text of the generated response directly to your computer's clipboard. This allows you to easily paste the information into other documents, emails, or applications.

Like/Dislike

You can provide feedback on the quality of the generated response by clicking the "Like" or "Dislike button." This feedback helps us improve the accuracy and relevance of future responses.
